This is the sixth installment of a seven part blog series called “Keys for a Comeback” written to help businesses and non-profits dealing with challenges due to COVID-19.

When clarity and urgency aren’t enough to get you out of a hole, you might just need a shot to the arm. In this social media age where each of us have our own platform and an email list, it may seem counterintuitive to pay a pretty penny for communication. But let me remind you that anything of value has a price tag.

Try thinking about advertising like a drug. The entrance level stuff is free, but the good stuff is going to cost you. If you need proof, just look at the progress of Facebook’s algorithm over the last 15 years. Organic reach for a business page has dramatically dropped, and customers need to fork over some green just to reach their own followers.

I’m not trying to get you to make a deal with the devil, I’m just saying these two things are true. One – advertising cost money. Two – advertising works. It’s not the answer for everyone, and certainly not the answer all the time, but if there was ever a need to amplify your courageous and concise message, that time is now.
